New Feature Request
To make the arranger more of a powerhouse feature, each section should have the option to hold time signature and/or tempo information. Having the arranger section based info override general time signature and tempo would eliminate the need to fiddle with individual signature and tempo markers for more complex arrangements and also boost workflow efficiency by enabling the producer to simply copy the existing 138bpm 6/8 arranger section to record new takes on for example.
Probably the most common current issue is that altering an earlier signature in the timeline has the possibility to mess up all following signatures in the project. This happens because signature change does not take into account any possible following arranger sections and insert or remove time from timeline accordingly.
The current time signature implementation does also have some bugs or irregularities in the way it works. In fact it may be the most unrefined aspect of Studio One. I discuss some of my findings below in support of the feature request, which if properly implemented could solve all current issues with signatures.
Having used S1 since version 3 and by far the biggest workflow disruptor for me has been the time signature implementation. I realize most users don't probably deal with as many signature changes per project, but could still run into these issues from time to time. The current signature track (at least in 6.6) seems to work somewhat independent from the arranger and signature changes happen based on the value indicated on the track itself. Dealing with projects having abundant time signature changes can get complicated quickly. When moving the sections around, it becomes necessary to keep track of their individual signatures and make changes to the signature track accordingly.
Logical solution to this problem would seem to be inserting a time signature at the start of each arranger section. This works, but with caveats.
Safest way I have found to make the arranging work is to simply copy and paste a section with a time signature at the beginning to the desired point in the timeline. However, sometimes this method removes the time signature of the following section. This seems to happen mostly if the following section is the last piece of arrangement in the song, but may also somehow be related to what time signatures are placed next to each other. Finally with this method the source of the copy often needs to be deleted. Usually selecting the arranger section and using "delete range" works without jumbling up the signatures.
Most logical way to arrange the song by dragging and inserting the sections in between each other is also the one with most irregularities. Two of the most common include inserting a higher division signature before x/4 will change the inserted sections signature to the same x/4 and possibly jumble all subsequent signatures in the song. Inserting (or pasting) a section with a different signature right before the final section of the song removes the signature from final section.
If there are any workflow adjustments or known workarounds to these issues, I am more than open to all suggestions.
